We’re thrilled to welcome the newest member of our staff as we grow, Kevin Daniels, Food Raising Leader!
If you were involved in our free income tax service this year you’ll recognize Kevin – he was one of our amazing greeters helping clients check in and get ready for their appointment. An Air Force veteran, Kevin is filling a newly created position here at Common Heart to help with the ongoing needs of securing food (especially nonperishables) for our pantries. This role is especially vital with the recent cuts to a federal program that provided many of the nonperishables we use each week.
Common Heart’s mission and the desire to help his community brought this Air Force traffic controller of 20 years out of retirement.
“I retired from the Air Force 6 years ago and didn’t want to jump into a job that I didn’t care about,” Kevin said. “Through various interactions with Common Heart over the years, I started to volunteer more and more until a new opportunity to work here opened up.”
Kevin says he enjoys being part of the Common Heart team and meeting new volunteers too.
“It’s going great! I’m learning the obstacles of doing my job but everyone here is super helpful and wonderful to work with,” he said. “I’m looking forward to overflowing the pantry with food so that we are prepared for anything that comes up. I look forward to helping out as much as I can!”
Kevin lives in Monroe with his wife, Mikki, who is from South Korea. They met there when Kevin was serving in the Air Force. The couple have three spoiled puppers (his exact words!) who enjoy barking, eating and sleeping.
