Volunteers create special dietary needs section

In the spring, we started seeing more and more people donating food back to us. Strange, right? Well, some of our neighbors who frequent our pantries are challenged by health issues that require special foods.
Thanks to friends like you, boxes of food are now being delivered specifically based on these special food needs.

One of our friends is on a “GERD” diet to specifically address major acid-reflux symptoms. He had to return food so regularly that he stopped visiting our pantries.
“I hate that I am being picky. I just can’t eat it,” he told us.

The stress on his budget created problems. In desperation he explained the problem. Thanks to this community of kindness, the need was met.

And not only his! Thanks to the ongoing support of folks like you, our neighbors are getting the food they need AND improving their health by staying on their doctor-directed diet. We’re proud to say that we’ve created special sections in our pantry warehouses for these foods and volunteers know what to look for as they sort incoming donations.

Cupboard Allies deliver these boxes to these friends with special dietary needs. Cupboard Ally volunteers deliver groceries & hope once/month! In fact, we currently have a backlog of neighbors waiting on Cupboard Ally volunteers to join the team!

Hunger may not take a vacation, but we can be a lifeline!

If you can make a special donation, go online to Lifeline.CommonHeart.org. You can also mail a check, payable to Common Heart, to: PO Box 2761, Indian Trail, NC 28079.

This summer we can make a huge difference for many children, moms and dads facing hunger.
