Have you heard?? It’s Love in Action season! LoveInAction.CommonHeart.org
We got a message on Facebook last week from “Sally” who heard that we might be able to help with groceries. She explained that she’s disabled and though her husband is working he’s also fighting cancer and the bills are piling up. What she said next is something we’re hearing more lately from the families who visit our food pantries — it was the first time they’ve ever needed help with food.
“Bless you. I have never been on this end before,” she said.
Neighbors like “Sally” aren’t alone in this struggle. Our evening food pantries have seen sharp increases in the number of families coming each week and many of those are first-time guests. Our Monday evening pantry at Benton Heights Presbyterian Church, which usually serves about 35 families each week is now seeing double that in a single week! The pantry at Union United Methodist Church in Waxhaw, which also averaged about 35 families each week, is now serving 50+ each Thursday evening.
The need for food (and hope!) is very real in our community. You can help put Love in Action by donating, attending our Gala on Oct. 7 or spreading the word on your social media … and maybe even start a Facebook fundraiser?
You can donate, become a fundraiser and/or RSVP online at LoveInAction.CommonHeart.org.
