Our current Getting Ahead focus/empowerment group is graduating and YOU’RE INVITED!!! Please join us for dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at Community Church of Monroe (224 E. Old Hwy. 74) and help us celebrate these hard-working neighbors who put in a lot of long hours assessing our community’s conditions and building resources to begin their transitions out of poverty.

Getting Ahead is a 17-session work group of individuals experiencing poverty that empowers participants for self-sufficiency and community engagement. Through these sessions, these “investigators” learn about the effects of poverty in their own lives, all while building resources to facilitate their transition towards stability. In their investigations they also assess our community’s resources and how we can provide more opportunities for upward mobility in Union County.
