Federal food reductions mean your generosity is urgently needed!
Just 5 DAYS LEFT in the $50K Kickstart Kindness match and we just found out that we will not be receiving nonperishables from The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) for at least the next six weeks! TEFAP – a federal program administered through Second Harvest Food Bank– is a major source of nonperishables, meat, and produce for Common Heart food pantries.
You can provide immediate relief by giving today! Your special gift will be DOUBLED and your new, monthly gift will be TRIPLED! Match extended until Friday, May 15!
Our friends at Second Harvest say that we might get “canned and dried beans, but that’s pretty much it” until at least July. This sudden reduction comes at a time when need in our community remains great. Common Heart currently serves about 10,000 people each month in Union County, and TEFAP plays a vital role in making that possible.
A Call We Won’t Forget
No parent should have to skip meals so their children can eat. But that was the choice Lilly was making when she called last week looking for help feeding her four children.
“We have some food, but not enough to get through the weekend. I really need things I can make meals with — not just snacks. I’m fine going without, but I can’t let my kids go hungry.
Then she added something parents will understand instantly:
“My little one can open the fridge now and he just wants to eat all the time.”
As we talked, one of her children poured her a glass of milk because they knew she hadn’t eaten yet that day even though it was after 3 p.m.
Because of generous neighbors like you, Lilly received groceries to feed her entire family — ingredients for real meals, not just something to hold them over.
KICKSTART UPDATE:
Small acts create big kindness and your gift today puts food on the table for families like Lilly’s this week.
Thank you for being part of this small revolution of kindness!
