No job. No food. This is summer hunger. Your online gift gets help on the way: Donate.CommonHeart.org Remember … Hunger Doesn’t Take a Vacation!
Cindy is a single mom. A friend encouraged her to come to one of our food pantries after hearing about her struggles being unemployed and caring for her two young children. Can you imagine trying to find a job, while taking care of two young children, and not having enough food to feed them? This is what summer hunger looks like for our neighbors.
It’s easy to forget that for many families with children, hunger doesn’t take a vacation. Without access to free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school, many families struggle during the summer. The increased need for food and higher costs are prompting more local families to make their first visit to a food pantry — ever.
Thanks to amazing volunteers and our friends at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Waxhaw who hosted our morning pantry last week, Cindy was able to take worrying about food off of her plate and get groceries to feed her family.
“I think this is absolutely amazing that you guys help people like this. I’m so grateful,” Cindy said.
