Dear Friends of Common Heart,

As of November 1, 2025, 18,812 Union County residents will see cuts to their SNAP food stamp benefits (source: NCDHHS.gov).

While we’re still focused on the Great Turkey Countdown, we also know these changes will bring increased need at our food pantries—likely as soon as Monday, November 3.

To everyone who has already called, donated, or organized a food drive—thank you! You are what fuels this small revolution of kindness.

We know how much our neighbors rely on us – and on you. Together, we’ve built a community of care and compassion. So while this setback is serious, it’s not the end of the story. We remain committed to our mission of bridging the gap for families facing food insecurity. We are actively looking for other sources of food and support to help bridge this unexpected gap – but we can’t do it alone.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP RIGHT NOW:

  • Reach out to our state and federal representatives. Ask them to restore SNAP Funding! We cannot do this alone, friends. Your voice matters – it truly can make a difference!
  • Visit Feeding America’s advocacy page to send letters to your representatives via email as well as learn more about food advocacy.
  • Continue sharing your time, your gifts, and your heart. Every donation, every volunteer hour, and every act of advocacy helps us keep this small revolution of kindness. We can’t do it without you.

Thank you for being part of this small revolution of kindness. Together, we will keep showing up for our neighbors – especially when it matters most!

With gratitude,

The Common Heart Team
