Every year since 2007, our friends have banded together and delivered frozen turkeys with all the fixin’s to local families in need. It’s our biggest delivery day of the year and a favorite volunteer activity for so many in our community. In November 2019 the support of over 600 volunteers and donors made a family Thanksgiving feast possible for a record-breaking 1,180 families. And what a difference this simple kindness makes to a family in need! The Thanksgiving boxes include everything a family needs to make their own meal — a frozen turkey, veggies, stuffing, sweet potatoes, fresh potatoes, dessert and, of course, cranberry sauce!
“Our goal is to make a beautiful Thanksgiving feast for folks to prepare so that that can celebrate and rejoice with their families,” Common Heart Executive Director Keith Adams said. “For folks in poverty and those who are having a hard time providing food, Thanksgiving can be a difficult time because everyone’s talking about their plans and what a feast they’ll have. It kind of seperates them. This gives them an opportunity to participate in everything that’s going on for the holiday. They don’t have to go to a feeding center, they can have their own family celebration and even invite friends.”
