Bridges out of Poverty Workshop registration

Training Volunteers & Community Members to Make a Difference

  • Bridges Out of Poverty is based on the book of the same name written by Dr. Ruby K. Payne with Philip E. DeVol and Terie Dreussi-Smith.
  • This workshop helps prepare volunteers and community members to address poverty more effectively. It is through the understanding of the issues of poverty that we can become more effective in removing barriers and helping families as they journey to self-sufficiency.
  • Bridges Out of Poverty provides concrete tools for a community to prevent, reduce, and alleviate poverty.
  • Materials used and strategies developed are focused on:
  • Moving individuals from poverty to self-sufficiency
  • Reducing social costs related to crime, poor health, and welfare
  • Strengthening educational attainment and job skills
  • Improving on-the-job productivity
  • Revitalizing neighborhoods
  • Building a sustainable community where everyone can live well

Workshop will be held May 21, 2016,Saturday from 9 am - 4 pm at Indian Trail United Methodist Church.

What do our volunteers say?

“There is one Saturday a year that I look forward to more than any other and that is the Saturday before Thanksgiving thanks to Common Cupboard! All I can say is WOW! What an amazing opportunity to pack boxes with an entire meal for families who wouldn't really get a Thanksgiving without the Cupboard and then get to personally deliver them, hear the families' stories, pray with them, hug them and encourage them!” -Crystal

Our delivery route took us to the neighborhood I grew up in as a kid and one of the houses we delivered to used to be the house of our oldest family friends... I couldn't help but thank God for the tears of joy he gave me and how thankful we were that he used us to touch the lives of those in need and for using us to bring glory and honor to His holy name." -Janie

"This was such a blessing for us today. We got lots of hugs and love coming our way. What an awesome Thanksgiving this will be! Thankful for Common Heart and Common Cupboard.” - Elise

What do our Friends in need say?

“We can’t thank you enough – you saved (our) Thanksgiving! My daughter Sharon’s out of work, we live on my Social Security. We have no money to pay any bills. But this helps us so much. Thank you again.”

"We have received our turkey and I want to thank everyone at Common Heart for thinking of us. We hope your Thanksgiving Day is as joyful as you have made ours. May our Lord bless everyone who serves at Common Heart."
